How bank transfers work on Eequ

Customers without a payment card (such as schools and local authorities) can now make bookings on Eequ and pay via bank transfer.

How it works for bookers

When the bank transfer setting is enabled on your listing, bookers will see it as a payment option alongside card payment at the checkout.

Once a booker chooses to pay by bank transfer, here's what happens:

  1. They click Confirm & Pay and are shown bank transfer instructions on a new page.

  2. They send the payment to the Mentor's Eequ Stripe account using the reference provided — this is not Mentor's personal bank account.

  3. Eequ matches the incoming payment to the booking and updates the booking status once the funds have been received.

Is there a delay?

Yes — unlike card payments, which are confirmed instantly, bank transfers are sent manually by the booker. This means there can be two possible delays:

  1. A human delay between the booking being requested and the payment being actioned by the booker

  2. A payment processing delay of up to 1 hour as the funds travel from the customers bank to the Stripe account.

💡 Customers paying by bank transfer can make payment errors such as transferring less than the required amount.

Whilst Eequ will label such occurrences, these errors can cause delays and confusion. Therefore, only allow bank transfers if you think it is appropriate for your customers. For most customers, card payment is the better option.

Enabling bank transfer on your listing

To start, bank transfer needs to be enabled as a payment option on your Eequ account. To enable bank transfers on your account, please get in touch with the Eequ support team.

Once it has been enabled, you'll find an Allow customers to pay by bank transfer setting within each of your listings. This means you can choose to offer bank transfer on some listings but not others.

To enable bank transfers on your account, please get in touch with the Eequ support team via support chat or via hello@eequ.org
